Evolution Korea
Up until recently the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with creationists for fear of giving the movement more credibility. The silence is no longer an alternative.
The STR has been battling to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of how the concept of development has changed.
What is Evolution?
The theory of evolution is a scientific one that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which can result in changes to genes or even whole genomes. These changes can, over generations lead to the emergence of new species. The most popular theory of evolution is known as natural selection, which describes the process by which people with advantages survive and reproduce more often than those with less favorable characteristics. In time, this disparity in reproduction could lead to the emergence of completely new species.
The term "evolution", which comes from the Latin for unrolling or revealing has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has developed in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist student who came up with the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that species are evolving into new species in a gradual and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living organisms develop traits that increase their chances of survival or producing offspring. Over time, genetic variability can cause a population acquire new physical characteristics or biological functions. The change in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it drives most evolutionary change. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass through exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolution since they aren't passed on to future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and thousands of scientific studies Creationists have taken advantage of the notion that the theory is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists won some victories against evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary history of humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur which is believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
에볼루션사이트 explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the foundations of biology, and helps scientists understand how living things work and develop. Evolution also shows the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to better understand nature and make useful discoveries such as new medicines.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe as well as life on Earth, and it has been rigorously tested and confirmed over the course of many years. Many people, including some religious leaders, believe in the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religious beliefs, as the theory is based on things, events and processes in the physical world.

In fact, many religious people have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. For instance some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution and that humans share an ancestral lineage with other animals.
It is essential for scientists to stand up for the teaching of evolution. Unfortunately, in some countries around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbook content on the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is vital to remember, however, that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief are diverse. Some scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries for example, such as the development of medicines or developing new medicines, while others are driven by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, generally for the benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, while others have a deep religious belief in God and want to know how the universe works.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Although Creationists may not all be Christian however, many are. Creationists are typically divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
YECs are the most well known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is literal, and that the universe and the life on Earth started only recently.
OECs are less well known, but they are just as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a lie.
Both forms of creationism deny that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought shunned miracles in fear that they could lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their belief "theistic evolution." This is also known as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." The theory says that God creates the original species and then allows these to change over time. Then, these evolutionary changes will result in new species like the original ones.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things in one event, referred to as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the first species were all created at the same time and that they evolved gradually afterward. They reject the concept of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating living cannot come from nonliving matter.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions are, however, more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curriculum.
What is Creationism?
When people think about creationism, many of them think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. Publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they will remove references to evolution in their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this drive. STR has won its first victory in taking away instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. 에볼루션사이트 is to take out portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families and members. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of students in biology revealed that a majority of them didn't believe in evolution. The causes are not clear, but could include religion or the absence of creation scientists in the country.
The KACR achieved many things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and an ebook. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences, with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it continues to be taught to this day.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR and its members have been giving talks on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
